Jorge quickly arranged a meeting with Eric and Grace Gregory, and they told Jorge all about their son, who had saved Jorge's life without even knowing it. In 2009, the Bacardis finally learned the identity of the teenager who had given Jorge the gift of life. But Jorge wrote a letter to his anonymous donor in the 2 Hearts true story, who he had named "Gabriel" after the angel, through the United Network for Organ Sharing. Organ transplant recipients are never given the names of their donors as a rule.
When they questioned him on this, according to Gregory's book he replied, "What am I going to do with my organs after I'm dead? And besides who wouldn't want this body?" In a casual conversation after dinner about driver's licenses, Chris made his parents aware that he had elected to be an organ donor.

As written in Gregory's book All My Tomorrows, Chris decided to become an organ donor when he got his driver's license at 16, but his parents weren't wholly aware of this until a week prior to his passing. In the 2 Hearts true story, Chris' corneas were also donated to two additional patients. Along with his lungs, Chris' heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas were given to the same Jacksonville hospital, and these were transplanted into other patients on waiting lists. Therefore, it's unknown who exactly received what. Due to HIPPAA privacy laws, the identities of these people can't be revealed without their consent. In total, seven people received Chris' organ donations, with most of them in the same dire straits as Jorge. While the 2 Hearts true story mainly focuses on Chris' life-saving contribution of his lungs to Jorge, Chris' status as an organ donor actually saved several other people's lives. Jorge and Leslie Bacardi were both involved in the making of 2 Hearts. Jorge had a slightly different version of their story, claiming that Leslie was rather flirtatious and had presented him with two sets of children's pilot's wings. Leslie was indeed a Pan Am flight attendant when she met Jorge, and in the 2 Hearts true story, he really did ask her to hold his hand to keep him calm as the plane landed. Jorge's love interest Leslie (played by Radha Mitchell from The Shack) was also a real person, and the two remained married in real life up until his passing in 2020, shortly before 2 Hearts' release. Her surname wasn't provided, and little is known about the real Jenn. They had only begun their courtship the previous October. Sadly, Chris and Jenn hadn't been dating long prior to his death on March 27th, 2008. In the 2 Hearts true story, Chris' college girlfriend was actually named Jenn, not Samantha, as chronicled in his father's book. Much like Chris and Jorge, Tiera Skyovbye's Samantha Peters and Radha Mitchell's Leslie Bolivar are based on real people. The call that they'd found a match came in March 2008, and within hours, 64-year-old Jorge was rushed into surgery. His only hope of survival was a double lung transplant.
